Our show celebrates National Women's Month in March. We will play calypsos about women and their contributions to calypso culture and society, and male Calypsonians will perform songs about women and a national calypso month focusing on women.
Independent Calypso shows we broadcast trace the history of the music by playing songs by Harry Belafonte from the 1920s and telling about President Franklin D. Roosevelt when he visited Trinidad in 1933.
Additionally, we do a big calypso radio show in Brooklyn, NY, for the 4th of July in addition to a Shango show, a spiritual Baptist show, and a calypso summer special with music from the 1960s to 1970s. We end the summer with fantastic music for Labor Day festivities, so make sure you stay tuned.
Although the themes are different, they are connected through authentic calypso music, the greatest music in the world. It is an assortment of music from many cultures such as African, Indian, Chinese, French, and Spanish. Whether the focus is love, humor, education, politics, black power, social issues, or economic issues, calypso music will cover it. This is why Calypso is timeless.
